Update on Cryptosporidium

16th March 2016
Ag eascair as an chruinniú poiblí  Dé Domhnaigh seo caite i halla pobail i dTír an Fhia, beidh cruinniú tráthnóna inniu ag ionadaithe ón gcoiste nua a bhunaigh an oíche sin agus ionadaithe ó Uisce Éireann.
Tá sé soléir áfach gan feachtas láidir ní bheidh athrú ar bith ar an scéal ach fanfaidh muid le aiseolas inniu.
In the meantime,  the following is the update  position in relation to our meeting with Uisce Éireann:

1. Progress has been made in relation to clean water for Tír an Fhía and surrounding areas. It is expected that clean drinking water will be available in two to three weeks as result of works just carried out to the plant. The only outstanding issue is the construction of new storage facilities which apparently are also essential but a date for same could not be given.
2. In relation to Carraroe: A contract has been signed with the Contractor for one million euro to upgrade the existing plant and  this  upgrade  will take six months. Uisce Éireann  are proceeding without planning permission for this upgrade and will apply retrospectively for same! In relation to the Casla Regional Scheme they confirmed once again that they will not be progressing with this scheme and that the long term plan is to bring water from Galway. This decision they said was based on a report/review carried out on the original planning permission for this scheme but a copy of this report was not available and is still awaited by myself and other public representatives.
3. Separately an upgrade of pipes in a number of areas will be carried out.
