HSE West has confirmed that the Sexual Assault and Treatment Unit for children under the age of 14 years has reopened. In this regard temporary contracts for two months have been accepted by staff and the issue of indemnity has been resolved.
Further substantive issues remain outstanding however and discussions will now take place to resolve these.
I very much welcome this positive news but any outstanding difficulties must be resolved without ever resorting to the closure of this essential service.
I will be raising the issue at the next Regional Health Forum Meeting on the last Tuesday of January to ensure progress has been made.
