Deputy Connolly welcomes An Post’s announcement that it is to advertise for the vacant contract to provide Post Office Services in Carna, Conamara.
She said that unfortunately Carna has been without this vital service for over 3 months now, causing great inconvenience to the local community and forcing residents to travel to Kilkiernan to conduct their business.
This is an issue that Deputy Connolly has pursued since the Post Office in Carna temporarily closed on the 3rd of May of this year and, while the announcement is positive, it is still not clear when the Post Office will reopen. In this regard, Deputy Connolly has asked An Post for clarification as to when the advertisement will be in the paper and the timescale for the re-opening of this vital service.
In addition, Deputy Connolly said that there is a further issue which needs to be examined by An Post and that is the nature of the contract on offer. More particularly, provision has to be made in future contracts to allow An Post personnel to take over any given Post Office when problems arise rather than the community being deprived of a Post Office service.
